Også

The word " also " is similar to the English word "also" and means the same thing. But the word order in Norwegian is very different. Here are some rules:

⚠️ " Also " can be in the middle or at the end of the sentence. We don't usually start the sentence with "also":
We ate at a restaurant. We also went to the cinema.
We ate at a restaurant. We also went to the cinema.
WRONG : We ate at a restaurant. We also went to the cinema.

⚠️ " Also " is not the same as " and so" . If you tell about several things that happen one after the other, you must use " and then " ("and then" in English). Remember that "so" is an adverb when it means "afterwards, later", and the verb comes in position 2 (we get inversion). When we speak, we stress "so" in " and so ", while in " and so " we stress "and":
We had breakfast, and then we went for a walk. (press " so ")
We ate breakfast. We had lunch and then . (press " and ")

⚠️ "Also" can appear at the beginning of the sentence if it appears together with a word or phrase that is highlighted, and which thereby gets emphasis:
We also went to the cinema. (not just him)
My brother will also be with us on the trip. (not just my sister)
