Real teachers are at the heart of Lingu. We use artificial intelligence to give you more practice between your teacher-led sessions, to create some learning materials, and to answer support questions quickly. This page explains where we use AI, how you will know, and what it means for your data.
Where we use AI
- Conversation practice: you chat in writing with an AI partner to practise English.
- Essay and writing review: AI suggests corrections and improvements to essays and other texts you write.
- Learning materials: some audio, images and other content in our courses is created with AI.
- Support: our support chat and email inbox use AI to help answer your messages.
- Recruitment: if you apply to teach or work with us, AI helps us review applications against the criteria for the role. A person always makes the decision, and you can ask for your application to be reviewed without AI. See section 11.1 of our Privacy Policy.
How you will know you are using AI
- Before you start an AI activity, the app shows a notice telling you that you are about to interact with AI.
- While you use it, an AI label stays visible on screen.
- Audio, images and other content created with AI carry the AI provider’s built-in marking and are labelled as AI-generated in the app.
- Our support assistant tells you it is an AI at the start of the chat, and how to reach a person. Email replies written with AI say so.
What AI does not do at Lingu
- It does not decide your grades, levels or certificates. Anything that counts towards a level or certificate is reviewed by a Lingu Ltd teacher.
- It does not decide whether you get a job with us. A person reviews every application.
- It does not identify you or try to read your emotions.
- It does not replace your teacher.
AI can make mistakes
AI feedback is practice guidance, not an official assessment. If something looks wrong, ask your teacher or contact us.
Your data
Your data is not used to train AI models. We send AI providers only the limited personal data needed for each request.
- The models that review your practice and writing run in data centres in Sweden.
- Our support assistant and recruitment screening use models from Anthropic, which may process data in the United States under the safeguards described in section 7 of our Privacy Policy.
